about

This is a compilation of all the early songs by Kobayashi from way back in 2006 / 2007 (line up - Matt Searles / James Rampton / Alan Stead / Louis Mills). We had all come from previous bands and after briefly trying it as part of a seven piece outfit called Tympanic for a very brief stint, Matt, James and I teamed up with drummer Louis to form what would become Kobayashi.
Our first two releases were live in the rehearsal studio affairs with a bit of studio post production. I have have only included two of these demo versions here ('The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name' and ''The Dream') both from the second of the two demo 4 track EPs as the remaining 6 tracks were all re-recorded to greater effect. Those superior versions are all included here including 3 previously unreleased recordings previously only available to our fans in demo form ('Dark Matter','The Difficult Second' and 'The Pure Stuff'). These recordings were made as part of an abandoned studio session and later produced to completion by Matt at his home shortly after.
We came third place at Battle of the Bands in Covent Garden in 2006 and, bolstered by our success, we released a single ('Urbanised Beatnik') which included three remixes (not included here) and an EP (where this album gets its title) which featured the remaining songs on this release. These were recorded at Orange and Blue Studios in 2007.
I have been wanting to put this material together as one album for some time as it is essentially the first chapter of the band and it completes the story of Kobayashi on Bandcamp. Enjoy!

about

Kobayashi Croydon, UK

Kobayashi are a strange band.

Not strange as in weird (except, maybe, for guitarist Alan) but strange as in hard-to-define. Linkin Park, Basement Jaxx, Roxy Music, Queen, James Brown, Tom Waits, The Stooges, Gomez, Bowie and Muse are just some of the artists we’ve been compared to. We don’t try to sound like any of them. ... more
